Shameful behavior that of President Donald Trump and VP J.D. Vance on Feb. 28, 2025 when they received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House. Never before a foreign chief of state visiting the seat of the U.S. government had been so mistreated, shut up, humiliated, and sent out like that.
Zelensky was ambushed by Trump and Vance: he was invited to the White House to sign an understanding involving Ukraine minerals in exchange for continued military assistance and guaranties against further Russian aggression.
Instead, Zelensky found himself in a booby trap; he was violently reprimanded by the two who tried to make him give up on his country saying Ukraine has already lost the war against the Russian invasion and there was nothing else he could do about it.
In an unheard-of move, both Trump and Vance repeatedly called upon him, did not let Zelensky talk, accused him of not being grateful, and of offending the US. In the end, the Ukrainian president was expelled from the White House, all this live in front of the TV cameras.
As a contrast to the always belligerent Trump's attitude, VP Vance with his ironic grin seemed to say: "We have already made a decision about your country, and nothing you can say really matters and won't make any difference".
At a certain point under bombardment, Zelensky asks Trump, "May I answer?" Trump says "No. You don't have the cards to play". Zelensky says, "I'm not playing". Trump continues, "You're disrespecting the country. This country". Such never happened. Nothing that Zelensky said can be construed as a lack of respect, either for the USA or the American people.
Zelensky was never allowed to speak and make his point. It was an ambush: Zelensky thought he had been invited to the WH to sing an agreement. Instead, Trump and Vance tried to make him give up defending the integrity of Ukraine, threatened him with ceasing all military assistance - which afterwards they actually did.
Some analyst say that on being bombarded by Trump and Vance with such accusations, Zelensky should have resorted to Ukrainian, his native language. This could have given him time to think thanks to the intervention of an interpreter. The fact is Zelensky believed in Trump's good intentions and was caught off balance.
Further on, Trump stops talking to Zelensky and directly addresses the TV cameras. Usually, the cameras only show the smiles and handshakes between the US president and a foreign chief of state, but not the entire conversation and certainly not an argument. Then Trump says that Putin did not respect Obama or Biden, and that he only respects him, Donald Trump. What the heck does this have to do with the issues at hand?
It became clear that it was a show purposely put up by Trump and Vance to talk to their own audience by using the Ukrainian president as an involuntary partenaire. The real intention was to make Ukraine give up and serve the country on a silver plate to Russia. No, Ukraine did not win the war, but neither Russia, at least not just yet.
Contrary to what Trump said, it was not Zelensky who made a military assistance agreement with Joe Biden (whom Trump accuses of everything that is wrong in the world). It was a formal agreement between two countries: Ukraine and the USA.
One wonders why Trump's adoration for a thug like Putin who no doubt is the U.S. worst enemy: around 50% to 75% Russian cyberattacks are against the U.S. Not only in Ukraine, but also in Chechnya and Georgia, Putin has repeatedly showed the world he is not trustworthy, as he has violated virtually all the treaties he signed.
If Trump thinks he can drag Putin to his side against China, he is being fooled and his move is likely to backfire. Russia and China are allies and have much more in common than Trump can imagine: they both hate America and want to defeat the US on every possible field.
Until a few weeks ago, analysts speculated that all could be attributed to the alleged Trump's excepcional deal-making skills. After his attacks on allies, and the shameful meeting with Zelensky at the WH, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Taiwan and other U.S. allies may come to the conclusion that under Trump the U.S. is not a reliable partner any more.
At the beginning of his term, someone commented on social media that Donald Trump "is managing to unite the world against the USA". It is unfortunately true. Never before we had seen such a bossy, arrogant US President.
Under Trump, the US are not the same any more, and the American people are already having a taste of it. We are watching history in the making.
A Spanish youtuber, Marc Vidal says Trump employs the "el loco" (the madman) negotiation strategy. To make the other party accept what he wants, he plays "el loco", unpredictable, no logic at all. This way, the other party will feel constrained to accept whatever conditions for fear of what "el loco" can do next.
Evidence of "el loco" strategy by Donald Trump are abundant:
- Annexation of Canada as the 51st US state,
- Annexation of Greenland,
- Annexation of the Panama Canal,
- Transforming Gaza into a "Riviera Paradise",
- Slice Ukraine e serve the country on a silver plate to Russia.
Since the times of Neville Chamberlain and Herr Hitler, the world has never seen such diplomatic style: the arrogant one.
